I bought Dana Thomas’ Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster because every where I read, the buzz was on this book. I started this awhile ago, but just finished it this week. I go between 3 and 4 books at a time. But this book really makes me think. What exactly is luxury? Is it the latest bag, cosmetic, or clothing? Are we really paying for quality or quantity? I believe it’s both. Luxury for me is a good night’s sleep, traveling, wine, people, books, music, hospitality, beauty products and life. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I think luxury is as well. Linda Grant did an amazing review of the book for the Bag Snob. It’s well worth the read. This is the lecture/book signing I attended after my rude experience at a beauty counter. Was that deja vu? Perhaps.
Because knowledge is beautiful and you should never waste the pretty!

I just read this book a few weeks ago and found it quite fascinating. Especially about the Asian markets and the future of the luxury market.
I liked your note on this book. Could not work out the trackback, so wanted to let you know that I have linked this article in my weekly review!
Thx,
B
I, too, just read Deluxe. I thought it was amazing – very thought provoking and fascinating for anyone who loves style.
