I'm humming "It's the most wonderful time of the year." No, I don't mean Christmas. I mean Oscar. I eagerly await the Oscars every year. As a child the Oscars always came around Mama Dear's birthday and sometimes on her birthday. We had a viewing party of Oscar worthy dresses even before all the cable shows did. Mama Dear would cook a fabulous meal, we would play dress up, with makeup, nails and the whole kit and caboodle. I loved it when she would let me sip juice from a wine glass and me thinking I was grown and a big girl. As Mama Dear got older she couldn't really cook anymore, but everyone made sure our routine didn't change. I still painted a fresh coat of red on her nails and lips, combed her hair for the occasion and on our last Oscar show together she let me wear one of her caftans and turbans. I remember it vividly, I was 18 and trying to figure out my beauty way. Mama Dear is looking down and whispering for me to "continue the legacy."
Here's my plans for Oscar dress watching. Sunday, I will hit up Dean & Deluca and Balducci's for some Oscar worthy treats: salmon pate, olives, prosciutto, strawberry napoleans and chocolate; the wine has already been purchased, so one less errand. I need to make sure that the only people calling me (around 5pm) are talking about Oscar clothes, jewelry and makeup; decide which Oscar pre-show to watch before watching ALT on ABC. I want to see what Mary Alice Stephenson can bring to CNN because she's a former fashion editor. I will flip between E and Joan Rivers to watch what idiotic questions they can't seem to stop asking celebrities. Call all my beauty junky friends to debate makeup and clothes. I hope they still keep the Best Supporting Actress category at the beginning so I can see Jennifer Hudson walk on the stage and accept the little gold man. I will have to force myself to stay up to watch Mr. Forest Whitaker take the leading trophy. I will end tonight with extra eye cream, serum and night cream. Monday morning, I will be thanking the beauty gods for Tricia Sawyer's Eye Slept, hopefully this will take the exhausted look away.
Have a pretty and wonderful Oscar night.

Ha ha haaa!! I have all my goodies ready to go! I am watching the pre-show on E! and sipping my cote du ventoux as we speak...

Girl, feel free to call me. I am having my annual Oscars party tonight - in spite of the snow! I will be wearing my flyest lounge wear and big jewelry, taking notes on all the best and worst fashion and make-up and screaming in delight as I watch Jennifer Hudson win!
