LA Pretty Spends a Saturday with Hourglass Cosmetics

Luxury, style, quality, perfection, brilliance, and beauty.  In a word . . . Hourglass. Yes, Hourglass Cosmetics is the “caviar” of make-up.  Upon attending an LA Beauty event, my makeover experience at Barney’s Beverly Hills gave a whole new meaning to the term “shock and awe!” Seriously, these make-up products are eye popping and jaw dropping.  With that said, I had to get the 411 regarding the ingenuity of its appeal.  When asking Carisa Janes, the creator of Hourglass Cosmetics, about her vision, she  proclaimed that she wanted to create a luxury line that enhanced  the appearance of and promoted healthy skin, with a focus on anti-aging benefits. 

Additionally, she wanted  her products to be supplied in functional, yet elegant packaging.  Carisa knocked this mission straight out of the ballpark, smashing the cosmetics scene with a line that is fragrance free and full of minerals that tighten, hydrate, stimulate, protect, and beautify.  Oh yes, did I mention that the products are also paraben free. Who wouldn’t want cosmetics that makes us look and feel good simultaneously?  Speaking of looking good, the packaging is spectacular! From the liners to the palettes, Carisa employed the principles of what’s chic, sleek, manageable, and unique - All About The Pretty, Baby! 

Did I say, “pretty?” . . . pretty damn awesome, which is the only way describe Josh Wolf, head make-up artist for Hourglass Cosmetics.  He was quite the Picasso. Using my face as his canvas, and these amazing products at his fingertips, he produced a masterpiece.  His application process coupled with his expertise of the products, help set this magical experience in motion.

Let’s FACE it:  First and foremost, Josh applied VEIL MINERAL PRIMER, which felt like liquid satin being spread all over my face. It is made with almond oil, which is a great emollient and moisturizer. This exquisite primer not only nourishes the skin, it also protects with  SPF15.  Secondly,  he created a unique blend of VEIL FLUID MAKE-UP and loose BRONZE MINERAL POWDER, to accommodate my darker skin. 

WOMEN OF COLOR PLEASE NOTE: VEIL FLUID MAKE-UP #5 OR #6 CAN BE COMBINED WITH THE loose BRONZE MINERAL POWDER TO CREATE A CUSTOM BLEND FOUNDATION FOR DARKER SKIN……DON’T GET IT TWISTED!

Any who, he buffed this blend onto my skin using BRUSH #2, and I was like, STOP THE PRESS!  The color looked amazing!  The line also features a pressed OXYGEN MINERAL POWDER that is formulated with soy and other minerals, and it’s been oxygenated to allow the skin to breathe. Although my face was already laced with a bronze glow from the mineral powder, I thought you bronze junkies might like to know that Hourglass has a  ILLUME CRÈME-TO-POWDER DUO that comes in an ultra cool, lightweight, swivel compact - STYLISH!  Then, Josh whipped out a  BLUSH DUO,  to accentuate my cheeks. The colors are well formulated with the perfect amount of pigmentation to make those apples “POP”!. 

The EYES have it: By the time he finished using  the TRACE EYELINER, the SUPER-FICIAL LASH volumizing and lengthening mascara, and the highly pigmented EYE SHADOW PALETTE(DUSK), I was super smoky and sultry . . . Ready to Roll! Check this out, even the eyeliner has soybean extracts in it, giving a whole new twist to the term “Luxury Liner!” The eye shadow palette encase six great shadows and two blushes. The perfect tool for women “On the Go. 

LIP Service: Quite simply, all Josh used on my lips was IGNITE as a base and REFLECT as a top coat.  Ladies, my lips were so lavishly lustrous that glass itself had to take a back seat. No surprise here, the glosses are made with coconut oil, and this just in . . . Carisa shared yet another secret. The lip glosses also contain a French ingredient called laminactine, known for its anti-aging and collagen stimulation.

ACCESSORIZE this: Let’s start with what Josh used to apply the foundation. I have to admit, I don’t typically get into all the different brushes that most women use to apply make-up, but the  BRUSH NO. 2  was like velvet caressing my skin . . . I kid you not! The cosmetic bag, in which I’m proudly rocking right now is practical, spacious, elegant, made of REAL lambskin . . . no seriously, you can actually smell the perfection, and it doubles as a handbag.. 

Hourglass Cosmetics, and it’s most hospitable staff pampered me with wine, make-up, and scintillating conversation.  My face felt flawless, and I looked fantabulous! In summation, with Hourglass Cosmetics, you don’t have to be a professional to create the illusion of wearing nothing at all.
