Ladies, this just in. It makes me so sad to even type this, but Max Factor will stop its U.S. Sales in early 2010. It will continue to sale it globally. This is so crazy because Max Factor is so old Hollywood glamour.
A little history on the brand. It was founded in 1909 by Maximilian Faktorowicz. In the 1920s and 1930s Max Factor was associated with Hollywood. It was the makeup for movies. Think Judy Garland, Joan Crawford, Jean Harlow, and Bette Davis to name a few of the movie legends that wore the makeup. Here's a great writeup on the history on Wikipedia. I'm still a fan of the original 2000 Calorie Mascara with the curved brush. It will be missed in the beauty arsenal.
To Max with love, Julia.

Wow! I didn't see this one coming at all. I have never really gotten into Max Factor but I would like to at least try it out before it's too late.

My mom never allowed Max Factor makeup in the house. The whole Lena Horne/Max Factor/ Ava Gardner "Showboat" debacle infuriated her, and still does, to this day.
Don't Factor's grandsons own Smashbox? If so, there is still a Max Factor connection in the cosmetics world for those who want it.

Wow! That's actually shocking! The brand is a drugstore staple!

how sad, although not terribly surprising. the past couple of years, i've had tons of trouble finding stores that stock max factor. the 2000 calorie mascara was a favorite of mine too :(

That is so crazy, especially since Max Factor invented the lip gloss! You can read more about the history of lip gloss on our site http://www.yoyolipgloss.com/lip_gloss_history.html, there is a whole history section on lip gloss.
