12 Days of a Pretty Christmas: Thank God I'm Natural - Day 8

I've been wearing my hair natural for almost one year.  What that means is that I don't have any chemicals in my hair to straighten it.  I know that natural hair has been a hot topic this year.  Let me start by saying that I am not against any woman chemically straightening their hair.  I'm all about women doing what makes them happy. I decided to go natural because of one reason - it's easier for ME to maintain.  I love water and no matter where I travel I must hit the water.  I always try with a basic swimsuit so I can swim at the hotel.  I found for me that being able to wash and go was the best for me. 

When I started out, I had not heard of Thank God I'm Natural by Chris-Tia Donaldson, but I'm recommending it for women who have no clue what to do. I love that Chris-Tia is not badgering the relaxed ladies in this book.  The book is full of helpful tips, tricks, and encouragement if you are starting on a natural hair journey.   It also has a comprehensive listing of salons that cater to natural hair all over the world.  I've added a few of the salons to my address book so I can pay them a visit on my travel. This book is a great source of  hair products that I need and want to try.  Do I still straighten my hair - yes, I blow dry it every few weeks, but that's it.  I can't wait to see my hair in the summer with various styles, but you know I will keep you posted. Remember, you do you. Be happy and be beautiful whatever way you decide to wear your hair.

Congrats on being natural for a year!! It is so freeing not being a slave to the chemicals. Have you ever heard of http://www.curlynikki.com? It is a wonderful site about natural hair care and the site has a great forum.

I began my natural hair journey in 2007. I just recently tried a style that didn't mimic my relaxed hair days and I am loving every twist, curl and kink. I look forward to reading the book. Thank you!

While I have not gone natural YET I have cut my hair extremely short for the first time in my life and girl I love it! I always thought my face was too fat but this hairstyle is actually the one that has flattered my face the most. It's not quite wash and go, but I'm not a slave to daily flat ironing either. A quick brush of the sides and back, spike up the top and I'm good! =)
