Don't Mess With Karma Bag

Karma_threadsI hit the Farmer's Market on Sunday to see one of my favorite author's Lynn Rosetto Kasper of The Splendid Table and the new book How to Eat Supper.  A great idea for a Mother's Day present is to give mom a reusable shopping tote - my favorite at the moment is by Karma Threads, which I carried all my spring vegetables, fresh cheeses, and flowers home in.  After 2 hours of food demonstration, book signing, and shopping I headed home.  I suggest putting the cookbook in the bag and both will make a lovely present.  You can also fill it with some beauty items, such as sunscreen to aid in the summer months.

Happy Tuesday!

Top Chef Chicago - Tonight is the Night

UPDATE:  Nimma's out.  It's so sad.  Now I have to focus on another girl.  I think I might like Zoi and Antonia, but I haven't made my mind up.

Top_chef I'm so excited about my TV viewing for the next few weeks.  Top Chef returns with an all new crew in Chicago.  What's up Chi-town.  Here are the cast of characters.  There's a Southern girl, Nimma in the line up so you know I'm routing for her.  But, I'm ready for a Top Chef Woman, so as long as one of the women win I'm happy.

Vegas Has It All

We're back from Vegas. Of course, I arrived more tired than before I left (if that's even possible with a two month old).  But I can't complain, we had a great time and I even came home with some Christmas spending cash.  As promised, here are some of my favorite places in Vegas. John and I always stay at the Wynn Hotel.  It's at the end of the strip far away from all of the traffic.  When you walk into the hotel, you almost forget you are in Vegas. Yes, there's a casino, but the focus isn't on the casino.  The hotel is beautiful, filled with the most amazing orchids.  I've heard that Mrs. Steve Wynn helped to decorate this one. On Saturday, I had a massage. I love the spa at the Wynn. It's not too big like the ones at Bellagio and the Venetian and the service is first class. After a massage, I recommend the deluge shower and sauna. Divine!

Two of my favorite restaurants-Alex and Okada-are in the Wynn.  Alex is run by Chef Allessandro Stratta.  It's received every food award that you can think of.  If you are celebrating a special occasion, this is the place to go.  For fresh, innovative sushi you can't beat Okada.  Another one of my favorite restaurants is Mix at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay.  Mix is located on the 64th floor atop the hotel.  The huge glass windows give you excellent views of the Strip.  Mix has a bar/lounge next door which is perfect for a cocktail before or after dinner.  Come dressed to the nines for this place. It's got a hip vibe and everyone is beautiful.  For lunch, I have two recommendations. One is Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris. If it's a nice day, ask to be seated outside.  The terrace faces the Strip and is a great place for people watching.  The frites (french fries) are delicious.  Olives at the Bellagio is also another fun place to have lunch. The best seats are on the balcony-you can enjoy the fountain show while sipping on some Chalk Hill Chardonnay (my absolute favorite chardonnay-I have Julia hooked on this one).

Vegas is also famous for its shopping.  It has every store imaginable from Louis Vuitton and Chanel to Nanette Lepore and Laundry.  For us beauty junkies, there is a large Sephora store too.  If you don't like to gamble, you can spend the day shopping.

Vegas has something for everyone.  John and I are already planning our next trip back.

Dolo-Partner in the Pretty

P.S.-We're leaving for Argentina this weekend. We're taking our son to meet his great grandparents.  Should be an interesting flight.  So, I'll be on hiatus until the following week - talk to you then.  Remember the Moor Allure contest is happening at 2:00pm EST.

Oprah's Favorite Things

UPDATE:  I didn't mention the Kai Body Butter, but everyone knows I love fragrance and I love me some Kai Perfume.  Well, I just placed my order and I am a happy, happy lady right now.  It could be the Malbec, but I don't think so.

OprahOprah's Favorite Things Show was on today.  I have used her guide for gift giving all through the year, not just the holidays.  I have steered people to the list and made a lot of people really happy.  Thanks Lady O.  A huge highlight for for me is knowing she picked one of my favorite kitchen items.  The Kitchen Aid artisan mixer in red.  I absolutely adore it.  I bought this for my birthday two years ago, in the exact same color, it's great for making pasta (using the attachments), but it's so good when you mix a homemade biscuit recipe and you aren't trying to get your hands dirty with buttermilk.  Last year I went through a biscuit making period, my butt also went through it too.  Every year I buy a great fabulous cooking gadget for my birthday/Christmas present.  This year it's this

Another highlight of the list is my all-time favorite board game, Scrabble.  I never leave for a trip without my travel Scrabble that the potion lady picked up for me a few year's ago.  Mama if you are reading - me wants this one for "the birthday" next month.  Oh yeah, and the new Martha Stewart Cookbook with some of her product line from Macy's thrown in.

Top Chef is Hitting Chi-Town

Chicago is a food town with great restaurants, shopping, culture, and arts.  Oh yeah!  The pizza isn't too bad either.  So imagine my delight when I read that the next season of Top Chef is taping in Chicago.  This is not what I needed - a reason to follow Padma and Tom around to see where they eat in the Second City.
