I always love Alicia Keys and Tatiana Ali's makeup so I practically begged on my pretty hands and knees for the fabulous Ashunta Sheriff to give me the 411 on all that pretty makeup. 

These are Ashunta's exact words on how to achieve the look.

Alicia Keys - Inspiration: Moroccan inspired due to her recent trip there in May for the Mawaline Festival. Alicia's short bejeweled shift dress in its soft aqua truly brought out her golden complexion. I wanted to give her a touch of sun kissed glow and Egyptian/Moroccan eyes with coral lips reminiscent of the colors of a Moroccan Paradise.

Skin:  Mary Kay Oil Free Hydrating Gel to make skin supple and soft. Oil of Olay Illuminating Eye Cream to diminish imperfections, Naked Cosmetics Shadow Base, Laura Mercier Mineral Primer.

Face:  Mary Kay oil free Tinted Moisturizer in Bronze 1, Mary Kay Concealer in Bronze 1, Black Opal translucent finishing powder, Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Mineral Bronzer in Light Bronze.

Eyes: Egyptian inspired eyes using Jane Iredale 24 Karat gold shimmer in the inner corner of the eyes, Naked Cosmetics eye color is EC15 Green in the outer corner and lower lash line.I used Makeup Forever Gold Cream on the lid to give Alicia a cleopatra eye affect. I used Styli Style 24 hour Black Liquid Liner and completed the look by adding 3 coats of Dior Show Black mascara on top and bottom lashes.

Lips: Mary Kay Coral Lip liner I lined and filled lips in then used TRUE lip gloss an all natural organic brand in Coral to give Alicia a beautiful coral pout.

Cheeks: I made cheeks pop by applying Mary Kay Strawberry Cream mineral blush on the apples.

Body: my secret weapon body glow mix is a combination of Dior Bronze Sun Powder Spray, Smashbox Bodylights body Lotion shimmer and Girlactik Beauty Gold Shimmer powder. The combination gave Alicia an amazing bronzed sun kissed glow to make her legs and decolletage look flawlessly stunning.

Tatyana Ali - Inspiration: Bollywood Princess, bringing out more of Tatyana's Indian heritage I used metallic earth tones to shape and frame her eyes. Radiant bronzed skin works for her toffee complexion and an iridescent nude topped the look off.

Skin: prepped skin with Mary Kay Oil Free Hydrating Gel to moisturize skin, Elizabeth Arden Gold Ceramide Capsules using as a primer plus it makes skin glow, Mary Kay Eye Primer so eye shadow last for hours on end, LaVanilla Lip balm because it hydrates lips and smells so good.

Face: I used Mary Kay Tinted Moisturizer in Bronze 2, Black Opal Concealer and translucent pressed finishing powder to keep skin shine free and polished. Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Mineral Bronzer in Brown Bronze to sculpt and shape face.

Eyes: Mary Kay Cinnabar Mineral eye shadow on lids, MAC Pigment in gold and vanilla in inner corner of eyes and brow bone to highlight. Makeup Forever Aqua Colors Black Eye Liner and Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara for extra lush and thick lashes. For red carpet glam I added Ja'maal Buster Eye Lash Guru Lashes called 2nd Date Guaranteed which are vampy sexy lash that really opens eyes.

Lips: Mary Kay Lip Iiner in Chocolate with Mary Kay Sugar berry nourishine lip gloss.

Cheeks: Bare Escentuals Flowers Blush applied to apples of her cheeks to make them pop.

Body: Palmers Organic Olive Oil Body Cream and Smashbox Bodylights Lotion body shimmer to make her legs look flawless.

Estee Lauder Summer Bronze Goddess Collection is rich with deep bronze shimmer goodness.  Let’s start with the EauFraiche Skinscent.  It has the summer, summer, summertime feeling in every spritz.  I  have been liberally applying it as a precursor to my weekends.  I wish it came in a roller ball as well which would make it perfect for a beach bag.  (EL I hope this is a good hint)

The Makeup Show - New York - May 17-18, 2009

To all my beauty junkies it's that time.  The Makeup Show is back in New York.  It's a time to enjoy all that makeup - to swipe, press, pat, and try so much makeup that I have a smile on my face for weeks.  I will be at the show on Sunday and I can't wait to report back on all that beauty.  In the meantime here's a list of all the product vendors.

From the bold red lip and the constructed black eye at Gucci and Roberto Cavalli, to the luminous faces and sexy rosy glows at Peter Som and Anna Sui, to the metallic brown eye and nude lip at Dior and Oscar de la Renta, this season was all about statement faces and a reinvigoration of your make-up palate. From Lanvin’s unstudied chic, couture in a minute, to Bottega’s girl, who’s all about downbeat luxury, to Galliano’s caricature harlequins, designers were disparate in terms of inspiration and key season looks, but luckily they offered consumers a bevy of face-flattering options, and inspired women on the street to find a focal point (stained lip, daring kohl eye) and blow it out with magical color.

 

After seeing dozens of photos of emblazoned cheeks, smoky eyes, and fuchsia petulant pouts, at a recent beauty event, P&G’s Global Creative Design Director Pat McGrath deconstructed this season’s trends to reveal eight key makeup bag essentials that will help you achieve the runway look on a budget!

LA Pretty Covers The Makeup Show - LA: Part 2

Lise Watier Plumplissimo Lip Gloss in Nude

Similar to their eyeshadows, I was impressed by the fine mill of the pearlescent ingredients in Lise Watier Plumplissimo Lip Gloss.  It makes this a really well-formulated gloss.  The tube and brush applicator are similarly well-made.  The color came out a little too opaque for my taste, i.e. it may be ill-advised to layer this on top of lipstick or lip liner.  I’m not sure if that’s a result of the “Plumping Anti-Aging” formulation or just too much pigment.

Otherwise it’s a lovely pink gloss that not overly sticky.

It doesn't have any color which makes it perfect to go over your lipstick. I used it while running errands and was really pleased, but I didn't think it was thick enough with these cold temperatures.  I do think it will work wonders in the summer when you don't want to run around with a heavy gloss on your lips when it's blazing hot outside.

Lise Watier Quatuor Toscana Eyeshadow Quartet in Mer

Lise Watier Eyeshadow Quarter in Mer comes in four vibrant shimmery colors that turn out a lot more sheer than the powders appear in the compact, which is really nice given the bright teal shadow (a teal that even someone with yellow undertones, like this reviewer, can wear). I found the powders to be finely milled resulting in a luminous effect that is more mother-of-pearl than glitterati. This also allows building the color from a wash to a bolder look. Overall, I found this to be a versatile eyeshadow set that is as easy to wear during day as it is fun to wear at night.

However, the packaging could be better.  The four eyeshadows are little half-domes that sit above the rim of thin plastic holders. This made me a little concerned that each shadow palette either might fall out or intermix with any loose powders from the other colors.

CHANEL Spring 2009 Collection

Ladies, don't hate me that it's six days before Christmas and I'm giving you something to look forward to for Spring 2009.  If you are still buying holiday beauty products here's something to give you a little lift.  Look at that nail polish - it's screaming for a vacay to somewhere one and I have to grant its requests.

The Global Creative Makeup Director, Peter Philips was influenced by gypsy dresses from Gabrielle Chanel.  He wanted to play with the dark eyes and fiery lips. 

• Lip Colour:  5 satin lip creme shades from pale pink to deep plum.  Rose Rebelle (pink), Euphoria (intense pink), Fiesta (apricot), Fuego (coral red), Beige Desire (beige); and Gypsy Scarlett (red).
• Eyes: Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Mystic Eyes - a palette of pink, beige, plum, and bronze. 
• Nails: Vendetta (dark violet) and Django (beige pink).
