Are you as tired of the cold as I am? I blame it on that groundhog and that seeing his shadow mess. I’m so ready to move back to Texas where freezing temperatures means it 47 degrees at night and I can get away with a light trench during the day. But what I really miss about the South is the heat and the humidity. Yes, I know humidity makes your hair big, but it is so good for your skin. All that great moisture to make your skin supple. It’s like your personal natural moisturizer. Well, it made mine supple. Now, I’m doing everything in my beauty girl power to get my east coast girl skin to look like my old southern girl skin for the next few wintery weeks.
Most of us know Dr. Weil based on his integrative approach to medicine which I love. But, did you know Dr. Weil has also taken his natural approach to skincare? Since I got back from Louisiana I have been using his Dr. Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Serum to my daily routine. My face has been soaking up this serum. I am not sleeping well at all, but this makes me look like I am getting eight-plus hours of sleep even though I’m not.
It’s that time of year where my skin starts to look as if I’m bathing in flour unless I hydrate and moisture like crazy. I know there are some things I should do like take lukewarm showers. I just don’t get the point of a lukewarm shower or bath. I want it hot and steamy so when I get in I am almost doing a dance in the water because it’s so hot. Yes, some things I like hot.
It also gives me any and every excuse to rediscover one of my favorite beauty items. I used to live by L’Occitane’s Cleansing and Softening Shower Oil. I don’t know what happened that made me stop using it, but I’m excited to add it back to the arsenal. As much as I love a super sudsy cleanser I realize they don’t work well for me in the winter. My dermatologist would tell me to go easy on anything that suds, but since I need little luxuries in my life at all time I will stick with this. It suds, moisturizes, and feels good. Plus, the scent is great on the mornings when all I want to do is stay deep under the covers.
I know I’m supposed to be all yogic and embrace each day, but winter I am so over you.
Lubin is one of the oldest French fragrances houses and is known for only having a few fine fragrances. The house dates back to 1798 and the fragrances are unlike many you will find most women wearing. It doesn’t have a celebrity face, it isn’t own by a major beauty company (please God no), and wearing it makes you feel as though it’s a custom fragrance. My favorite is Nuit de Longchamp, but plan to get Akkad during this year’s Paris Beauty Tour. It will get you noticed for all the right reasons.
I woke up this morning to discover it’s National Coffee Break Day. I plan to grab a cup of decaf Monte Carlo from La Colombe Torrefaction and tonight plan to enjoy nyakio Kenyan Coffee Body Scrub. I usually make my own scrub, but I was gifted this nyakio scrub and all I can so is wow. It isn’t smooth which I love. I like my scrubs to have a little texture. It helps me to know that I’m scrubbing off all that dead skin.
A new week and a new mask to test. Clay masks are popping up all over and some are much better than others. Right now, the bliss multi-‘face’-eted all-in-one anti-aging clay mask is winning the clay mask battle over here at the JC Lifestyle beauty arsenal. My skin is still recovering from the holidays. Not just the weather, but the sugar, alcohol, and high fat foods that I consumed.
This week has been hectic. I’m still in Louisiana and trying to sort through my emotions on losing my brother. Needless to say I need all the relaxation I can get. I’m carrying Aveda’s Stress-Fix Concentrate Rollerball around and sniffing it as much as humanly possible. It’s like my beauty crack. The only thing I’m looking forward to is climbing so deep in a bath tonight with soaking salts and finishing with the body butter. It is amazing how taking time to take care of me feels so right. I have been trying to be strong, but today I had to admit my limitations. I need to sit still and be silent. Thanks Aveda for helping me.
If you are feeling the dryness of winter in your hair I highly recommend Earth’s Nectar Green Olive & Lavender Scalp Oil. The scent-obsessed girl in me recommends it for the smell, but the beauty advisor wants me to tell you it really works. I know melted coconut oil works, but sometimes you need a little extra and want to feel the love on your scalp. A big part of my happiness is knowing the spray isn’t spraying all whilly nilly on my scalp. It’s a direct line to the places it needs to go. A little goes a long way, but I wouldn’t know because I’m heavy handed and in my mind the more the merrier.
I was on the hunt for a new red lipstick. I wanted it to be beautiful, highly pigmented, moisturizing, and look good coming out of my pocketbook. It was going to replace one of my favorite reds, but you ladies know how it is. You just need something new. I give you Gucci Beauty Audacious Color-Intense Lipstick in Iconic Red. All I can say is thank you Pat McGrath. She has created some of the best beauty products on the market and she hasn’t disappointed with this red. It’s everything Gucci represents – glamour and sexy. When I wear this I only wear mascara and a very neutral blush. That’s it. The color doesn’t need anything else. Get it in your lifestyle.
