Washington, DC Living: Staycation at the Fairmont Georgetown Hotel

Fairmont

The Fairmont in Washington, DC is located in the Georgetown corridor and close to numerous restaurants, shopping, and a nice walk to all the site-seeing venues. I recently had the pleasure to have an overnight stay at the property to discover their newly remodeled rooms and to see what plans the property has for the near future. DC is a hotel town. Being we are the Hollywood of politics, it makes sense that hotels play a key role in the city. We have conventions, tourists, schools, and more vying for attention when visiting.

The Fairmont is a substantial hotel. When I walked in I didn’t realize how big the hotel was in size. It has over 400 rooms and all the rooms are being remodeled or have been remodeled with each having a DC theme. The rooms have enough outlets and USB chargers, so all my devices could charge at the same time. And they have an HDMI hookup for the TV. I like to travel with my HDMI cord for streaming and it’s changed my travel game.

If fitness on the road is your thing like it is mine, the in-house gym is run by Balance Gym and features daily classes, cardio equipment, and Crossfit. Plus, you can order from the restaurant to your room Paleo or gluten-free food options.

My favorite part of a hotel is their bathroom amenities. Yes, I judge a hotel by this. The Fairmont has Le Labo. Let’s discuss this for a minute. Le Labo is the cult French fragrance company that started out as perfume and now has linen wash (divine I tell you), candles, and body washes and soaps. These are the type of bathroom amenities you actually want to take. (more…)

My Current Favorite Beauty Masks

Beauty Masks

My beauty arsenal is filling up with lots of masks. I’ve been needing so much hydration and moisture in my skin with these cold temperatures and masks are fun, easy, and the good ones work. Here are three masks I’m currently loving and actually do their beauty job. Yes, they make you look like Hannibal Lecter, but I suggest pouring yourself a nice glass of wine (I’ve been sipping big Cabernet Sauvignons all winter), read a good book, and bask in the beauty of the mask.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask. I finally received my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair masks and they live up to their namesake Estee Lauder Advanced Repair Products. Love, love, love.

Hada Labo Tokyo Ultimate Anti-Aging Facial Mask. I fell hard for Hada Labo last year and I am still repurchasing them. They have a great price point and I like how my face feels after this mask.

SK-II Facial Treatment Mask. This is the mask I use when I’m been running around and not treating my skin so great. It’s the only mask I use after I’ve been traveling and also take with me on all my trips. It works.

Travel Radar: The Ritz-Carlton – Aruba

RC Lobby

I have a love affair with luxury in all its forms – especially hotels. The Ritz-Carlton is one of my favorite luxury properties and this new location in Aruba is on my travel radar. I first heard about this new location last year and it is definitely only my list of places to visit. Aruba is a beautiful island and I can see myself in the cabana, with my eyes on the water, flipping through a magazine, and drinking a sweet libation infused with the best Caribbean rum.

The property boasts a lot of great features and amenities including every guest room and suite having their own private balcony, Asprey bathroom amenities, a 24-hour casino (if that is your thing) and spa. I’ve had the best sleep ever on a Ritz-Carlton bed. I don’t know what types of feathers they use, but it is always a pleasure to sleep there.

The property also has two swimming pools and is on the beach. I like to alter my sun exposure between the pool, the beach, and the cabana. Repeat. I never met a spa I didn’t like and the hotel has a 15,000 square foot spa with 13 treatment rooms, steam rooms, saunas, and whirlpools which are perfect after some time at the gym or the daily fitness classes.

The Ritz-Carlton Aruba is definitely on my list for an anniversary vacation later this year.

Tria Age-Defying Eye Wrinkle Correcting Laser

IMG_3829

I am grateful I live at a time where beauty gadgets are all the rage and fun. I treat my beauty gadgets like precious cargo because they are. I can’t imagine going without them even when I didn’t know I needed them. I have been playing with Tria’s Age-Defying Eye Wrinkle Correcting Laser over the past few months and I have fallen hard and my eyes have never looked better. I’ve said it before. I’m not the best sleeper as I’ve stated before, so my eyes have taken a hit. I prefer a cold dark room for sleep, but I’m married to a man who likes the heat on hell.

On those nights I don’t sleep well or wake up in formation, I use my lovely Tria laser to make me look a whole lot better. I love using the laser, wearing concealer (the secret of the universe) and going about my day looking like I slept ten hours instead of four.

I was first introduced to the Tria world with their at-home laser treatment. Although I never used it, I was intrigued. The eye laser is a genius product and only takes two minutes. Ladies, you have two minutes. Don’t get me wrong. I love my laugh lines, but this laser helps me look awake and make me love them more.

DC Living: La Ferme Restaurant

IMG_4687

I recently had the pleasure to celebrate a gem of a restaurant in a suburb of Washington, DC. La Ferme Restaurant is a classic French restaurant that I never heard of. The restaurant celebrates thirty years in the city and is practically unheard of in the restaurant industry. In DC restaurants open and close faster than I can change my mascara, so it was a real treat to celebrate La Ferme. The Francophile in me has a new food favorite.

La Ferme reminds me of a rustic chalet in the French Alps. I am currently planning a full meal with a few of my Francophile friends so we can partake in the house-smoked Norwegian Salmon, Coq Au Vin, and an array of stinky French cheeses.

Later this spring, La Ferme will be adding a new bar, apply named Cognac, featuring a collection of wines, cocktails, and cognacs with a select bar menu offering small bites.

Learn more about La Ferme Restaurant and visit before the DC foodies find out. It’s the best-kept dining secret that soon won’t be a secret.

Travel Radar: The Vines Resort & Spa – Mendoza, Argentina

VoM 1

It’s been five years since I visited Argentina and I am itching to go back. I recently discovered The Vines Resort & Spa and all I can say is “wow.” The resort is a part of the Leading Hotels of the World and in the heart of Argentine wine country. The Andes Mountains are on one side and the Uco Valley on the other. I can see myself practicing yoga, reading, and relaxing while looking at gorgeous views.

If you’ve watched A Chef’s Table on Netflix you will recognize Francis Mallman who has a restaurant on the property. And it’s on my list to eat there. I’m thinking I should go work harvest in the vineyard and my reward will be my stay.

RevelationsRX Serum Skincare

IMG_4610

A skincare line based on serums you ask? Yes. I always tell women serums are the bees knees when it comes to skincare. In my beauty routine, they are the foundation. RevelationsRX by Nuvesse Skin Therapies is a line of skin therapy solutions including roll-on hydrating serums and biocellulose masks that recently came into my beauty arsenal and I can definitely say I’m hooked.

Sheet masks are all the beauty rage right now and I see why. They are convenient, easy to use, and you notice effects immediately. I love to use a mask with my facials. It’s the finishing touch to making my skin feel soft and supple.

The transformative product to me is the Deep Hydrating & Brightening Anytime Serum Roller. Yes, roll-on. As a traveler, this makes me happy that I can add it to my carry-on bag and not worry TSA is going to hijack my beauty routine. This is sheer and utter genius. I couldn’t stop playing with the serum. Brilliant.

I’m traveling later this month and the next few months and I can’t wait to take these products with me. I like to maintain a full beauty routine on the road and RevelationsRX just made this a whole lot easier.

Hello From the Beauty Side

Hello From the Other Side

Well, hello there friends. How have you been? I’ve been recovering well on this end and feeling I can finally get back to writing on the business of all things beautiful. I recently had a conversation with a good friend and we were discussing how life is about simple luxuries. If you follow me on Instagram (you really should) I have added the slogan as a hashtag. This surgery taught me so much about myself and really about my husband. Talk about a trooper.

I recently decided to up my retinol usage for my skin. I was in my hospital room doing my normal skin routine and realized some of the products I was using was working and some it wasn’t. There’s nothing like harsh hospital lighting to make a girl rethink her entire beauty routine. I didn’t know if it was all the medication or the fact that I wasn’t on my normal eating schedule, but I felt my face lacked a little sumthin’ sumthin’. I decided during my recovery to stalk a few retinol products to try and I wanted to try the ones which were getting rave reviews.

Then Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Oil and Good Genes came into my world. Well, darling – talk about a simple luxury. These two products together are like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting the Golden Globes. Now here’s the thing darling. Once you start them you WILL become addicted. I mean addicted. My suggestion in case you aren’t ready to jump into the deep end of the Sunday Riley beauty hole is to get the starter set from Sephora. Your face will thank you. You need this is your beauty arsenal ASAP.
