It has a been a busy few weeks over here in my world, but despite some ups and downs I’m still grateful. In the midst of madness I can always find a few pretty things to make me smile. I’m trying to reach my goal of 45 books this year and according to my Goodreads challenge I’m 6 books behind schedule. I can definitely catch up by the end of summer because all I want to do is sit outside in the heat, near water, listen to music and read.
Happy Weekend! Here are my loves of the week.
The Director by David Ignatius. I’ve made it a point to put down all the business books and get back to my favorite summer past time – fiction reading. I want to be taken away, transported, and forget my day-to-day. I’m able to do that with a good book. I’m a tech junkie so the fact that this is involves cyber terrorism, The White House, and written by a local DC author makes this the perfect summer book to me.
Tulsi Jasmine Green Tea. I try to drink a cup of green tea a day. I know it’s good for me, but I’m not a fan of green tea unless it has another flavor added to the mix. This tea tastes delicious hot, but even better cold over ice with a mint leaf. Trust me.
Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Desert Oud Eau de Parfum. I haven’t met an Oud I didn’t like and this one is just as alluring, intriguing, and spicy to tickle my Oud fancy. It smells like woods, reminds me of Egypt, and is perfect for a hot summer day. I’ve been on a floral kick and need to literally “spice” things up and the best way to do that is fragrance. Perfume Junkie, hello!
Lovely winter we are having this spring! I know it’s technically spring, but the wind and the lower temperatures has me doubting my spring commitment. It’s all good. Spring brings pollen, allergies, and new scents. Dolce & Gabbana’s Dolce scent is putting a bright smile on my face. The scent is a great combination of amaryllis, daffodils, lilies tossed with a few notes of wood and musk. Domenico Dolce says, “this is the picture of Sicily that I carry within me, and the one captured in this delicate fragrance.” I’ve been to Sicily and the aroma of food, flowers, and sea are enchanting. I’m so happy to add Dolce to the fragrance arsenal! Spring is looking beauty-full! Dolce, it is so good to be spritzed by you.
This weekend I find myself in another hotel, but this one is closer to home. I will be on a quick stay-cation to reset and regroup before heading out again next weekend. It’s all good because I’m bringing a few of my favorite things of the week.
Thrive by Arianna Huffington. Arianna is the creator of The Huffington Post. A few years ago she realized she was sleep deprived, stressed, and over-worked. Raise your hand if you have been there. It taught her a valuable lesson. Arianna, wasn’t taking care of Arianna. This book is how to thrive on your terms.
Gardenia Rattan by AERIN. I’m a sucker for a good gardenia based scent. I blame my mom. She loves any and everything gardenia. This is a soft gardenia that’s balanced with other white flowers. People will want to run towards you wearing this.
ESPN The Magazine. I’m sure you are like “why did Julia pick ESPN?” I’m actually a huge sports fan. I love most sports, but my favorite sport is the NFL. I am behind a few issues of ESPN and need to catch up. I know it seems crazy that this beauty junkie-travel loving-yogi would be reading ESPN. It’s not. I also get Sports Illustrated too, but I’m current on that one.
Happy weekend. Bisous!
My loves, my favorite items of the week happen to be products I discovered while in California. I had an entirely different le weekend ready to go, but I’m so excited about these beauty products I couldn’t help myself but give you the beauty duty for the weekend.
Happy Weekend! Bisous!
Olavie Antioxidant Hand Cream. This is rich cream and my hands immediately fell in love an needed to be caressed by this hand cream. I had brought a new hand cream with me that I wasn’t fond of and I am excited for this one. Mysteriously, the other hand cream was left at my hotel. (Wink!) My favorite words from the brand – tested on wine lovers, not animals. Adorable.
Illume’s Go Be Lovely Fragrance. The name of the scent drew me to it. Go be lovely. Those are the loveliest words I have heard in a while. The fact they are applied to a fragrance makes it better. I’m going to be lovely while wearing the Anemone scent full of patchouli and cloves.
Kissing Elixirs. This is the cutest version of a breath freshener you will ever find. Trust me. It works and it’s cute. Beauty for the win.
There are scents that make me smile and scents that transform me, move me, and bring tears to my eyes. That’s how I feel smelling Roja Dove Amber Aoud. A brief background of Roja Dove. His scents are only available at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman in the U.S. You can always cross the pond to Harrod’s and take a whiff if that tickles your fancy. The scent takes me back to Egypt. That country is magical to me and I can’t wait to return.
I hadn’t had a fragrance moment like that in a long time until I was at Bergdorf with my friend Sarah and took one whiff of Amber Aoud. Tears came to my eyes. Seriously. I had to take deep breaths. I think I spooked Sarah a little bit. I don’t come off as emotional (I am), but that day I was a mess. A lot of people don’t really understand the power of fragrance. Coco Chanel famously said “a women who doesn’t wear fragrance has no future.” Coco I get it. I do believe scent is transformative. Roja reaffirms my belief in the power of scent.
Every time I apply Amber Aoud I am gone. Blown away. It brings back so many memories. Beauty is powerful. Embrace it. Own Enjoy it.
I love being a girl.
I feels like spring. I know I shouldn’t be so happy, but 50 degree temperatures make this girl very happy. Although, the forecast call for rain, I don’t care as long as I don’t have to wear a puffy coat. I looked at the calendar and I’m like where has this year gone. It’s flying by. April is upon and it’s time to ponder new spring dreams, aspirations, and fun.
Here’s to the weekend and a few of my beautimous favorites. Cheers!
Nest Midnight Fleur Rollerball. This is the rollerball that will make her debut in Napa Valley next weekend. I am always working on my travel fragrance collection. A girl must smell nice while living a life en route and this is a new favorite.
Soy Sauce for Beginners. I can never get enough of coming to age story and this one has made their way to my Kindle. Excited to step out of my reading rut of series books about killers, madmen, and secret agents.
Paddywax Passionfruit & Guava Boheme Candle. This is what happens when you work part time at a yoga studio that also is a boutique. You discovery new candles that you can’t live without. This is the current candle in the office rotation. My friend Maria told me it reminds of her spring break. It reminds me of Kauai and all I need is some fresh papaya.
Snow days are sometimes the best days. Especially on a Monday. After working full speed from the time I woke up I decided it was time for a mid-day break. I don’t mean the kind of break that included the day’s left over coffee, but the kind that included a hot bath (hot baths are so not good for winter skin) and soaking in Diptyque’s Precious Oils for Body & Bath. I am all about adding oils such as jojoba and almond oil to my bath and I wanted to feel luxurious. Therefore, I brought out the big beauty guns. The kind that you don’t use every day. It’s like your Sunday best. You may know Diptyque from their candles and their recently launched skincare line (I will have my hands on that soon), but this oil took me to the happy place I needed on a cold day.
Were you trapped by the snow? What did you do?
I can feel the magic in the air. The magic that soon it will be March and warmer temperatures. In the meantime I am dreaming of magnolia, vanilla, and musk. It’s all wrapped in the reality of Ann Taylor’s Signature Fragrance. Years ago I worked at Ann Taylor when it was just clothes and shoes and no celebrity endorsements. It’s still a go-to spot when I need a real woman pair of trousers.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the scent. I’m always hesitant when brands dip their beauty toe into something that’s not their speciality, but I’m glad Ann Taylor decided to try something new. It’s a scent that is waiting to be worn sans puffy coat and gloves. In the words of Katy Perry this fragrance is ready to roar.
What scents are you waiting to wear this spring?
