NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: Because I’m Tired of Looking Tired

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

Concealer has become my best friend. I find I need a little something under my eyes either when I’ve stayed up too late reading or I can’t shut my mind off from thinking at night. I spent every night this week partying. So I need something today. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer has found its way in my arsenal and is in constant rotation under my eyes. I tried to not use concealer unless it was for an event or going out at night. This has me using it often. Okay, not often. Every day.  It’s lightweight and provides the perfect coverage for the bags under my eyes. It doesn’t hurt that there are 10 shades so I know you can find your perfect match. Hopefully I can work through my sleep issues, but until then I’m glad I’ve got a friend in concealer form.

Renée Rouleau Triple Berry Smoothing Peel

Renee Rouleau Triple Berry Smoothing Peel

Summer = exfoliation. Often ladies. I exfoliate to keep my skin looking dewy and fresh. I’m outside more in the summer and with pollution, free radicals, and DC dirt my skin needs all the help it can get. Renée Rouleau Triple Berry Smoothing Peel is part of my summer beauty routine. I find the peel very gentle. There is a little tingling sensation around the 5 minute mark and that is the sign to rinse with cool water. I love the way the peel makes my skin feel all soft and supple. I also follow the directions religiously so I don’t aggravate my skin. I use this about twice a week and it is one of my go to products in the summer. Remember: pretty makeup looks good on pretty skin. Always.

AERIN Spring Beauty Collection 2013

Aerin p1

I want to say I’m ready for spring, but due to these fluctuating temperatures it feels as if winter still wants to come out and play. It’s okay. Why? I have AERIN’s Spring Beauty Collection to put a smile on my face. A few months ago I met Aerin here in DC and it was truly one of those moments in my life when I wanted to pinch myself. I had met one of my girl crushes in real life and now I can check THAT off my beauty bucket list. She was so nice and sweet describing the brand and her personal touches for the collection. AERIN personifies her grandmother’s legacy and and having my grandmother as my beauty inspiration I totally got her. In my head she’s one of my beauty BFFs. She loves gold and reignited my love of it. I’m a sucker for packaging and her entire line will have you running to the nearest store and her website. I am in a deep like with her home and shoe collection.

I digress. AERIN’s beauty line is chic and functional. The colors are vibrant and will work on a multitude of skin tones. I will say this. There is something for everyone in her line. Take for instance the Garden in Bloom and Garden at Dusk compact for blush and eyes. There are two choices, but the Garden at Dusk works best for my coloring. The pièce de résistance is the Floral Illuminating Powder. Not only is it gorgeous to look at in your beauty arsenal, but it is a perfect highlighting powder on the cheeks. Divine!

Estée Lauder Mad Men Collection Blush

EL Mad Men Blush

I have to admit that I have never seen an episode of Mad Men. I know that sounds crazy. But, I never got into it. I love the fashion from the era, but watching it not so much. I’m trying to limit my TV viewing time and I can’t add another show. I didn’t even realize that a new season of The Borgias started last night. I need to do a fast recap of that as well.

Let’s get back to this Estée Lauder Men Collection Blush in Light Show and why it is perfect for spring. I use it as a highlighter on my cheekbones and it makes any blush color pop. The shimmery-peachy color is part of the repertoire. The compact is so beautiful that I like to leave it out like a piece of art. I can’t get enough of how much fun it is to look at every day – just like Don Draper. I might not watch the show, but I definitely know Jon Hamm.

This blush will be on my cheeks all spring.

Bite Beauty Matte Crème Lipstick in Pastille Rosebud

Bite Rosebud

Bite Beauty has done it again. For the past few months I have been enjoying lipstick more than I thought I would. I usually prefer my lipsticks to be creamy so the thought of a matte lipstick had me rethinking my addiction to creme color. That all stopped the minute I tested, tried, swiped, and applied Bite Beauty’s Matte Crème Lipstick in Pastille Rosebud. This lipstick has just the slightest touch of creaminess that makes my lips feel great, applies easily, and doesn’t require an entire lip exfoliation when I want to wear it. It gives just enough mattiness that I want from a “matte” lip product.

The photo on the left is what the color really looks like with my favorite Rifle Paper notebook and the top right photo is from so you can see what the lipstick looks like in real life. The bottom right is a tree I passed on the way to yoga last week. I am currently in Louisiana, but when I left on Monday it was snowing. I know spring is here according to the calendar, but I need it to really get here. I hate to say I have become a woman who doesn’t care about seasons anymore. I need heat and lots of it.

Beauty Girl Winter Blues + New Year Expectations

Argania 1640

It is that time again. New Year’s Resolutions. As I have said before I prefer the term “expectations.” Resolutions seem to be something you know you won’t finish. But expectations on the other hand are meant to be completed. For the past few years I have come up with a key word that I want to focus on for the year. For 2013 it’s attention.

I really need to start paying attention to my overall well-being, get back to feeling like myself, put myself on the top of the list (ladies I know you understand me on this. If mama ain’t happy then no one is happy), take a solo trip, and keep Sundays tech free, email free, digital free, and just relax. I decided with a few friends to a personal growth challenge every month for the year. I will keep you posted on how it goes – alcohol for January, bread is a no-go for February, cheese for March, and books/paper for April. Lord help me.

With that being said, I decided one of my new year expectation is to figure out the extreme rough patches that have appeared on my skin as of late. They are not noticeable to anyone else, but I can feel them. The super dry patches on my nose, cheeks, and chin. I won’t even start on the rest of my super dry body. That is another post.

I dislike winter. I really want to say hate, but hate is such a strong word. I dislike and despise these patches. I am slathering almost every available oil in my arsenal. It’s only been two weeks, but one has oil has triumphed over many. It’s the Argania 1640 oil. It’s a wickedly divine argan oil that I only use on the dry spots. So far so good. If I can just get to spring. I’m clicking my winter boots three times like Dorothy and hoping my skin will take to this oil.

Here are a few of my top expectations:

  1. Healthy living is a lifestyle (juice feasting 3-4 times a week, fasting one day a week, and tech free Sundays);
  2. Journal 3-4 times a week. I really miss it, but over the years I spent telling the Don everything. I miss writing ALL my thoughts out on paper;
  3. Work on my penmanship. I used to have beautiful handwriting. But after years of writing on a computer I realized it was a problem;
  4. Quit buying crap clothing. I seriously need to only buy things I love. This will help me prepare and save to spend that month in Hawaii that I have on my agenda for 2013. Yes, I plan to be a brown beach babe from August – September. Brown baby bronze for days;
  5. No smartphones during meals. I don’t use them at home when I eat and I refuse to spend another meal with my husband or friends checking in, tweeting, instagramming, Facebooking, and so on. You guys know exactly what I mean;
  6. Prepare for Beauty Tours in Paris (2013), Italy (2014), Tokyo, and South Africa. Ladies save your coins. It is going to be epic;
  7. Complete four half-marathons (ambitious I know);
  8. Complete the 21-day yoga challenge at Tranquil Space from February 1 – February 21 (another ambitious thought);
  9. Read 50 books (more ambitious – if you love to read please friend me on Goodreads); and
  10. Find something every day to be grateful for in my life.

Wish me all the beauty luck and Happy Beauty-full New Year!

Bronzed Girl in the Winter Time

All I want for Christmas is a beach. I have so much going on the next few months and trying to be a grown-up and only buy what is necessary. I have dreams that 2013 is going to be epic with a major blog overhaul, a few half marathons, my next beauty tour, and a month in Hawaii. But, that doesn’t stop me from wanting to cash out some savings, hop on a plane, and get my brown girl bronze on. That won’t be happening anytime soon so I have been spending time with Hourglass Cosmetics Illume Creme-to-Powder Bronzer in Sunset on my face. I dab the bronze on first and then later the pinky color on top of my cheekbones. You would think I have been to a beach with that glow on my face. Brown girl bronze thanks to a little help from Hourglass.

CoverGirl Clump Crusher by LashBlast Mascara

I haven’t jumped on the lash extension train yet, but until I do I will be testing out new and fun mascaras. The latest in the beauty arsenal is the dynamo from CoverGirl. Ladies prepare for the Clump Crusher. I was a little skeptical that this mascara would make me happy. I am still in love with the original CoverGirl LashBlast and didn’t think they could top it. I was so wrong and I can admit. CoverGirl did it again with this mascara. I applied two coats of this and my lashes loved it. I used the Very Black color because I like dark lashes. No clumps for the lady lashes. Today was another good beauty day.
