It’s that time of year again – Fashion Week. It kicks off in New York and finishes in Paris. It determines what we will be wearing next year, from colors on clothing to lips and nails. I believe that design, fashion, music, and food are all a part of style and it seems that Bon Appétit magazine is in on the fun as well. I love everything the new editor at BA is doing. The magazine presents it’s Feast or Fashion with the theme “fashion all day, food all night.” Bon Appétit’s Feast or Fashion offers original content in a Style Guide and video series on BAFeastorFashion.com.
At most fashion week parties it’s only finger foods to eat. I know at a BA party it will be more than just a nosh. This is definitely my kind of fashion week party.
Prabal Gurung‘s Fall collection was elegant and with just the right amount of pop for color. I’m in love with these hot pink pants for Fall. Why? It’s typically not what I would consider a fall color, but it’s a welcomed surprise. The Texan in me loves this idea of playing up color for fall. I tend to live in black and gray for most of the fall and winter. He showed tons of black and white, but my heart is with all this color. This color combination can also work for a Spring ensemble. I can definitely see the First Lady wearing these pants.

Jason Wu’s collection brought joy to my eyes. I see fabulous frocks that even the First Lady would approve. The showstopper for me was the red dress. I seriously cannot get enough of this dress. It shows just enough skin, long enough to feel like a princess, and sassy enough to give enough glam girl chic. The collection has me wanting to play dress up in my own closet. I still miss the days when people gave an effort.
I was looking at taking a cruise next year and was shocked to find that there are cruises without the Captain’s night. What in the world are we coming to? Do we not have enough fun to want to play dress up on vacation? It’s actually disturbing. I get the casualness of the world, but can’t we get back to the little luxury of dressing up when it’s appropriate. It’s time to peruse the closet and plan to attend a black-tie event. Just for the fun of it.

Rag & Bone’s collection is a bit different for my taste, but it’s Gucci Westman for Revlon’s face that I like. The eyes have lots of color on them which can easily be toned down or up depending on your personality.
For many the smokey eye seems impossible to do. I think the key is applying lightly and building layers of color. You also need to step back away from the mirror to really check it out. I find if I am too close to the mirror my eyes look like a raccoon. The skin is healthy and glowing with not too much foundation which can be heavy. The lips are barely there, but this look could easily have a stronger lip if you tone down the eyes.
This look can be carried from the runway to real life.

Rachel Zoe uber-celebrity stylist, wife, fab girl, and soon-to-be high fashion baby-mama showed her first collection to various buyers before fashion week started. Just because she isn’t able to travel until le bebe makes his debut her collection is still on my wish list. The black tuxedo look has me channeling my inner YSL Le Smoking Suit a/k/a Jane Bond, while the girly side can’t resist a freakin’ ruffle. This white column, ruffle confection is elegant with just enough je ne sais quoi. Now I want to head back to the Amalfi Coast to wear it while eating dinner at a restaurant over looking the Mediterranean.

Jenni Kayne may be based in California, but her clothing can be worn on on the East Coast as well. I’m loving the red pants look. For some reason red pants are on my list for Spring and now I’m looking forward to the rich color for fall. Could it be that I’m embracing my inner Texan and going back to my roots of color? Maybe. I’m embracing red lips more. I still love me some gloss, but I’ve committed myself to a strong lip to coincide with the strong woman that I am and I know you are, dear reader, too.
CND was on hand to rock the nails. Angi Wingle created a blushing taupe manicure using one coat of nude opaque Desert Suede, layered with Copper Shimmer, washed out with a coat of semi-sheer patina Rose Water and topped with Super Matte. This grown-up grunge nail accentuated poppy magenta lips and stick-straight locks.
As I sit dreaming of April showers and May flowers the fashion world is preparing for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2011. As the Spring and Summer makeup and clothing rolls into stores, New York, London, Milan and Paris are preparing for the next season. As always the site will cover only the pretty. Why write about the bad? We all know we won’t be wearing it. I love looking at beautiful, luxurious, and sassy items so I’m excited to see what the designers and makeup artists have in store. New York may be salivating over fall, but I’m dreaming, hoping, wishing, and patiently waiting for Spring. I’m so ready to retire the puffy coat, snow boots, and thick scarves.
