Feasting Pretty: Crios Torrontes Wine

I was recently in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I tasted amazing wines, feasted on delicious food, and explored a city that I fell in love with several years ago. A discovery I made there was Crios Torrontes Wine. Most people think of Argentina and Malbec. It’s the country’s signature grape, but a crisp, flavorful, and light Torrontes gives the Malbec a run for its money. The Torrontes grape is from the Salta region of Argentina –  in the north region of the country.

In the DC area we went from winter to summer in a matter of days and as much as I love a good red wine it’s too hot to drink it this time of year. I normally go for Chardonnay, but this Torrontes is now my new favorite white wine. Most Chardonnays are heavy and taste of oak. Torrontes is a light wine, low acidity, and easy on the palette. It’s a perfect summer wine with an even better price point.

Destination Pretty: Yoga & Wellness Retreat With Takeyah Young

It’s no secret my love of yoga and travel. Anytime I can combine the two is always a blessing. I recently met a local DC yoga teacher who is leading a Yoga and Wellness Retreat in Jamaica in September and knew I had to let everyone in on it. Takeyah Young is not only a certified yoga teacher, but also a wellness expert. I believe that wellness and health go hand-in-hand with beauty. When I get more sleep, eat well, and nurture myself – my skin is happy. When I don’t, well it just ain’t happy. If you are looking a fall getaway to connect your self with like-minded individuals then this is just the retreat for you.

I have looked at my calendar and tried to fit this retreat in, but unfortunately I can’t. I have New York Fashion Week, my cousin’s weding in Houston, and my own anniversary celebration. I’m a bit overloaded at the moment. But, if I wasn’t. I would be attending this retreat above the hills of Ocho Rios and enjoying all the following.

  • 4-night stay at Bromley, a beautiful retreat home in the
  • 1 – 2 mixed level yoga classes daily with Takeyah Young (Certified Yoga Teacher)
  • 3 delicious meals daily (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
  • Wellness workshops that will teach you tools for sustainable health and nourishment
  • 1 private coaching session with Takeyah Young (Certified Holistic Health Coach)
  • 2 nature-based excursions (hike and river swim, beach, etc.)
  • Ground transportation to/from retreat excursions
  • Round-trip airport transfer from Sangster’s International Airport in Montego Bay

A Few Changes to All About the Pretty

This weekend will bring about a new design for All About the Pretty.  Thanks to the talented Lianne Farbes of The Makeup Girl, we are doing a “pretty tweak” of the site.  It will still have the same look and feel, [no way I’m getting rid of the fab header], but as Ina Garten would say we are “turning of the volume.”

It will be easier to subscribe, search, and find everything beautimous on the site.  So, bookmark, expect a few technical glitches (not many we hope), and see you on Monday.

Trina Turk Acapulco Gold Tunic

This snow has me looking forward to the beach and warm weather.  I need flip flops, dewey skin, a relaxed peace of mind and this Trina Turk Acapulco Gold Tunic.  My love will continually revolve around epic resort wear which I never thought would be me.  I think getting older has something to do with it.  My mindset constantly constantly deserves a beach getaway.  It doesn’t have to be a long time, but I can’t wait for girls’ weekend in April.  I need to treat myself to this tunic and a few more cute pieces from Trina Turk’s luscious clothing line.

Countdown to a New Year + 21-Day Yoga Challenge

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to a new year.  Each year I pray for health and happiness for my family and friends.  I don't make resolutions.  I make New Year's Expectations.  What do I expect in this new year?  I expect a year of abundance.  Abundance in my health, career, friends, travel, and more.  2010 has been an amazing year for me.  I was able to travel the world, get engaged, get married, and pursue my career dreams.  It has been exhilarating, scary, exciting, and fun.  I expect 2011 to be bigger and better.  As I close the next few days of the year I want to once again thank you – my readers for sticking with me.  Thank you for sticking with me as I write on the passions of my life – beauty, travel, food, and yoga.  I plan to add a little more fashion  and design to the mix.  Thank you for reading, commenting, and emailing me with your thoughts. I am grateful to you.

Yoga Journal Magazine is having a 21-day yoga challenge.  I plan to participate even while traveling.  I leave on January 13 for a 5 day journey to my home – Paris for my hubby's birthday.  I have a favorite yoga studio there and hopefully will only miss one day for flight time.  If you don't practice yoga it's okay.  Take the challenge to exercise for 21 days.

YJ 21 day challenge

I believe 2011 will be transformative.  I have always been the "glass is half-full" kind of girl and I plan to stay that way. In 2011 I wish you blessings of health, wealth, and happiness.  Bisous.

‘Twas the “Pretty” Night Before Christmas

Joyeux Noel, Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, and Happy Kwanzaa to all the pretty people.  Thank you to my wonderful readers for another wonderful year.

'Twas the "Pretty" Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas
and all through the house
the only creature stirring
was the click of a MAC mouse.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
With hope that creme blush would soon be there
Mom and daughter were nestled in their beds
With visions of Paris and shopping dancing in their heads.

When out on the roof there arose such a clatter,
I sprung from my bed to see what was the matter,
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutter to Tarte's Lights, Camera, Splashes!

With a little old drier, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick,
More rapid than eagles, the products all came,
and he whistled and shouted and called them by name.

Now Honoré des Prés, now Bobbi, now Leila Lou, now TokyoMilk and Estee
On Leonor Greyl, on CHANEL, on Curls and Laura Mercier
Becca foundation in the color called Mink
Products all over the shower and next to the sink
To the top of the porch
To the top of the wall
Now dash away! Dash away!
Products stashed in the hall

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk
And laying his finger aside of his nose
What a lovely scent, Fresh Sugar Rosé?

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot
A bundle of products he had flung on his back,
and he looked like a beauty counter opening his pack

Santa came on his sleigh packed with beauty products galore
Carrying bags from Neiman Marcus, BlueMercury,, Sephora and more
I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight
May the lip gloss be with you all, and to all a good night.

Have a very Merry and Pretty Christmas

2010 Holiday Gift Guide: SpaRitual HandPrint Organic Salve

The song says that "It's the most wonderful time of the year," but my hands know that it is also the most drying time of the year. Last Monday I left cold DC for warm Belize where I ate amazing food, soaked in the culture, sun, and sand.  Needless to say I'm back and this cold weather doesn't make me happy.  This week I'm regrouping in preparation for my birthday celebration on Saturday.  But, everything on me is dry.  My hands seem to be taking a huge beating.  In this weather I'm cozying up with magazines, books, and soups.  I'm also cooking a ton and the constant washing and drying of my hands are doing some major damage on my hands.  I'm trying to keep them up, but I've been slipping.  SpaRitual's Hand Print Organic Salve is working wonders.  I leave it in the kitchen because that is where I need it the most.HandPrint
